Namibia desert and rivers guided self drive tour or/and Etosha, Sossusvlei


DAY 1. SPRINGBOK

Depart to Vioolsdrif Border Post. Enter Namibia proceed  through the vast plains of Southern Namibia to Ai-Ais, Richterveld Transfrontier Park. This park spans some of the most spectacular scenery of the arid and desert environments in southern Africa. Bisected by the Orange River which forms the border between South Africa and Namibia, it comprises the Ai-Ais Hot springs Game Park in Namibia and the Richtersveld National Park in South Africa. Some of the distinctive features in the area include the Ai-Ais Hot Spring and one of the largest canyons in the word, the Fish River Canyon. Ai-Ais means “Burning water” One of the springs has his eye in the camp. Ai-Ais lies in the southern part of the canyon. Drive to the Fish River Canyon via Gondwana Nature Park. This inspiring canyon measures 160km in length, up to 27km in width and reaches a depth of 550 m. Visit different viewpoints overlooking the canyon. Although the park is not known as a game park, springbok, gemsbok, red hartebeest, Hartmann’s zebra, kudu, klipspringer and ostrich survive in this harsh land.

DAY 2. AI-AIS/RICHTERSVELD – LUDERITZ (362 km)

Depart to Luderitz on the B4 route visit the Dias Point there is a replica of the cross-erected in July 1488 by Portuguese Bartolommeo Dias on his return from the Cape of Good Hope after navigating the first ship round the southern point of Africa. From this viewpoint, one has a good view of Halifax Island home of many Cape Fur seals. Many flamingos can be seen in this area

DAY 3- LUDERITZ – SOSUSVLEI (425 km)

Visit the Diamond Ghost Town Kolmanskop or an informative guide tour. Drive back to the B4 to Aus; stop at Garub near Aus to see the feral horses of the Namib. Drive north to Sesriem via Tiras Mountain Conservancy and Namib rand Nature Reserve. From this road, you have a beautiful view of the Namib Desert.

DAY 4- SOSSUSVLEI (150 km)

Enter the Namib Naukluft Park and continue to Sossusvlei with its monumental dunes, up to 325m to 380m when measured from the base, is one of the top destinations in Namibia. The star-shaped dunes are a sought after topic for artists and photographers from by strong multi-directional winds, they are at their highest and most spectacular where the west-flowing Tsauchab River empties itself into the vlei. The deadvlei is also at Sossusvlei. Hiking is optional.

DAY 5- SOSSUSVLEI – SWAKOPMUND (346 km)

After breakfast we depart north to the Keiseb canyon, drive to Walvis bay. Visit the lagoon with all the birds drive to Swakopmund

DAY 6 – SWAKOPMUND  – SPITSKOP (100km)

Depart from Swakopmund to Spitskop through the desert. Spitskop is somewhat surreal with incredible photo ops. You can drive around here or walk and take photo’s of the rock formations. There is a restaurant and bar at the entrance. Hot showers also are available.

DAY 7.  SPITSKOP – BRANDBERG MOUNTAIN. (100km)

This is where we do our first real offroading.  We turn off the good road and head North on a track that leads into a dry river and it starts getting interesting. We eventually end up in the Omaruru riverbed and head upstream for a bit before breaking out of it onto the plains. The view on and from these plains is spectacular. We visit the rock art at the mountains and then head for White Lady lodge where we camp for the evening. The desert elephant are regular visitiors to this area.

DAY 8. Brandberg  to Twyfelfontein (290km)

Depart up  the Ugab River, here we can expect the un expected (elephant’s gemsbok springbok )

DAY 9. Twylfelfontein to Puros  (250km)

Today it is a long drive. We go through the vet fence and when we cross it again they will confiscate any meat we have left. The drive gets very interesting, we will take the long way down the Haonib river and the across to Puros and over the desert. If we feel like it we will camp in the river bed.

DAY 10. Puros. (0km)

We explore the area looking for the desert elephant , lion and other wildlife. This is 4×4 country.

DAY 11. Puros. (0km)

We explore the area looking for the desert elephant , lion and other wildlife. This is 4×4 country. We can stay at the camp or bush camp.

DAY 12. Puros TO ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK. (250km)

Depart from Puros to King Nehali Gate.

DAY 13.ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK. (120km)

After breakfast we do a game driving have lunch at one of the picnic spots and back to camp for a rest.

DAY 14.ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK TO WINDHOEK (480km)

After breakfast we depart to Windhoek

DAY15.WINDHOEK TO MATA-MATA (200km)

Depart from Windhoek to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and enter the park at Mata-Mata border.Accommodation; Chalet/Camping
Meals; breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 16.MATA-MATA TO TWEE RIVIEREN OR NOSSOB (289km)

After breakfast we drive in the Auob River to Twee Revieren or over the dunes to Nossob

DAY 17. TWEE RIVIEREN OR NOSSOB – UPINGTON (310km)

After breakfast we drive back to Upington. Drop off at destination.
